Braga, Portugal – TAU Express participated in the 3rd International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Assistance for Legal Professionals in the Digital Workplace (LegalAIIA 2023). The proceedings of the workshop can be found here. The event brought together renowned international experts to discuss the latest advancements in the legal domain.
The paper titled “Applying Large Language Models (LLMs) for Enhancing Contract Drafting” was co-presented by Dr. Victor Cheng of TAU Express and Mr. Zee Kin Yeong from the Singapore Academy of Law, in collaboration with Professor Kwok-Yan Lam of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The paper explores the application of traditional AI and generative AI techniques to streamline the workflow of legal professionals involved in contract drafting.
During the presentation, Tau Express highlighted practical prompt writing strategies that demonstrate how LLMs can generate coherent and contextually appropriate contract clauses. In addition, TAU Express addressed privacy concerns associated with open-source systems by investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of using on-premises LLMs like Vicuna. This approach ensures data security while maximizing performance.
The experimental results using the public dataset LEDGAR showed that LLMs are useful tools for contract drafting and the automated comparison results can work as hints or recommendations that users can consider to revise and enhance the generated clauses, hence simplifying the task of contract drafting by legal professionals in an augmented intelligence manner.
